Your expierience
Meet at the Breil sur Roya train station, here you can park some of the cars and carpool to go to the canyon car park which is located in the Praghiou district. Once parked, you leave the unnecessary items in the car and the guide gives you your personal equipment and a waterproof container to put the picnic in. The day begins with a 30-minute approach walk following a calanisation bringing water from the canyon to the district. The path is almost eastward and is shaded. We thus enter the Carleva valley and arrive at the start of the canyon. Here we get equipped and the guide gives you a briefing on the safety rules after which the adventure begins.
We start with a few jumps in a forest atmosphere and emerald water that turns blue when the sun's rays light it up. We quickly arrive at the first big slide (12m) that we can also abseil down if we want. Further on, a jump marks the beginning of a series of slides going up to 16m, leading to a small abseil after which we take a picnic break. After eating, we have a part of aqua-hiking that takes us to the greenest part of the canyon where resurgences have formed a magnificent tuff cave that we can go see. This is the highlight of the canyon! A few beautiful jumps and slides further on we arrive at an old Roman bridge that marks the end of the canyon.
After removing the wetsuit, we take an old mule track that was the old path of the Roya valley to return to the starting car park. After changing we return to the trainstation of Breil to collect the cars.
It is possible to go and have a cold drink at the station buffet or in the center of the village.
